Roman Zancarli, a 26 year old young man, has chosen to live in a very unusual way: for over two years, his house has been a

Ford Focus. While working as a courier for Amazon, he decided to embark on a journey of self-discovery, getting away from his routine and immersing himself in nature.

 

This radical choice was born from a deep desire for change and the search for serenity. After going through a period of severe depression, Roman felt the need to drop everything and start from scratch, in search of a new balance.

His car became his refuge, his office, and his means of exploring the world.

 

Thanks to social media, Roman has built a community of over 200,000 followers who follow him on his adventures. On YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, he shares his daily life, his travels, his advice and his reflections. His story has inspired many people, demonstrating that it is possible to live an alternative and happy life, even with limited means.

 

Roman's life is an example of how it is possible to overcome difficulties and transform a moment of crisis into an opportunity for growth. His choice to live in a car represents a challenge to consumerist society and an invitation to rediscover the simple values of life.

Born under the starry sky of Odessa, Ukraine, in September 1998, Roman lived a childhood marked by a shadow of mystery. His date of birth, uncertain, was estimated by comparing his height with that of other children. A start to life marked by an absence of certainties, a premonition of a future that was anything but linear.

Abandoned by his biological parents, Roman grew up in an orphanage where the environment was aseptic and devoid of affection. Instead of educating, the staff used inappropriate methods, often resorting to psychological and physical violence. The only glimmer of joy in those dark days was represented by a large piano that often resounded in the halls of the institution. Music, from the very beginning, became his companion, his refuge, his first love.

His life changed radically when he was adopted by an Italian family and brought to Verona. But the new home was not a safe haven. Constant arguments between his adoptive parents, a tense family environment and the feeling of always being in the background have deeply marked his adolescence.

In the meantime, he falls in love, becomes a father. Life seems to take a positive turn, but depression returns to make itself felt, undermining his relationship with his partner. The lack of communication distances them inexorably, leading to a new breakup that deeply upsets him. Suicide seemed like the only way out to escape the pain and suffering. But Roman is a fighter, and life, however cruel, has not managed to break his indomitable spirit.

Tired of a life of instability and pain, Roman decided to take the reins of his destiny and write a new chapter in his story. At just 24 years old, he made a courageous choice: abandoning a sedentary lifestyle and embarking on a road trip. His faithful companion, a Ford Focus, became his home, his refuge and the means by which he explored the world.

His car, as well as a means of transport, became a symbol of freedom and rebirth. It is here that he reads, writes, dreams. It is here that he learned to know himself better, to forgive the mistakes of the past and to look to the future with optimism.

Roman's story is a hymn to resilience, to the desire to live and to the ability to reinvent oneself. It is the story of a man who, despite the difficulties, found the strength to rewrite his destiny, one chapter at a time.

Inspired by a true story, the documentary film takes us into the world of Roman Zancarli, a twenty-year-old who has chosen to live in a car. The documentary film will explore his life in depth, from his turbulent childhood marked by his parents' abandonment, to his current itinerant existence. We will discover how he transformed his car into a home, how he reconciles fatherhood with his life and how he faces the challenges that life poses him.

The film aims to raise public awareness of profound and current issues, intertwining the narrative with reflections on life in a car, depression, sharing and the bond with nature. Life in a car, often a symbol of escape or the search for freedom, here becomes a metaphor for loneliness and detachment from reality, a condition that many face on a daily basis. The film explores how depression can creep into this lifestyle, showing the emotional and psychological consequences of an isolated and nomadic existence. Finally, the film highlights the indissoluble bond with nature. It is not just a backdrop, but becomes a character in itself, a refuge and a guide for those who seek to reconnect with themselves. Nature offers a silence that allows one to listen to one's thoughts, a beauty that inspires hope and a strength that teaches resilience.
